The situation

Ledgerly's customer docs ran on Strapi v3 — two major versions behind, with an upgrade path that required a full rebuild anyway. They chose to rebuild on Payload instead of rewriting in place.

What we did

  • Modeled 40,000 documentation records into nested Payload collections with drafts enabled
  • Moved from MongoDB to a managed PostgreSQL instance in the same migration
  • Shipped on Payload Cloud with preview deployments per branch
  • Wired docs search into the product app via the local API

The result

Doc deploys went from 25 minutes to 90 seconds. Documentation traffic converts to signups at a measurably higher rate, and the writing team ships without engineering handoffs — the first time in company history.
